Heading up to the farm Saturday morning to see how things look and probably cut some Johnson grass to brush pit with.

Go see about it ! Sure glad to see the fronts coming through blocking the tropical activity.

First trip to the lease since early spring. They got a good burn on it , but a decent amount of grain on the ground, more than last year for sure.

Pit was full of water, first time in several years we had a big enough rain to overtake it during the off season.

Cleared some brush around the pit and cut a truckload of Johnson grass off the high ground between us and river. One of my partners will go up and pump soon. Then we'll just need to bring decoys and brush the pit and dividing panels.

Lease manager called today to let us know they'll be rowing up our field for beans next year. Not great because it means a lot of tilling.

Lease manager asked if this was a deal breaker, and I said, it's not my farm I just lease the pit. He appreciated that, and I asked if they would let us plant some brown top along the big levee road, so we'll see what farmer says on that.

So they're going to make rows, front and back, and those would be flooded? Presumably over the row tops too?

I'm no farmer, but it seems a waste of fuel to make rows before flooding that will erode them with each front's winds.

I agree with Rick. Seems like a good way to have water ruin the work. I have hunted a bunch of bean fields over the years and can't remember ever seeing them make new beds in the fall.

Took a load of decoys up to the farm this evening. Pumps are running and it's hot and dry.

The "hills" aren't too bad. Pretty flat actually. Lotta straw still showing so not disked to death.

My lease partners got the pit pumped today. Water is backfilling nicely from the west. With rain next few days we should be showing good water for the next 2 weeks leading to opening day. We have more decoys to bring up and need to get panels brushed, but main thing was getting pit pumped so it can start drying out.

Rode back up to the farm Monday afternoon before the rain started back. Finished putting out my goose decoys and re arranged. Brushed pit and divider panels. Front is full and back side needs a little more. Didn't see a duck or goose. Image

Looking good ! Seeing much overall water on landscape or pretty sparse? Rains this week should have helped.

Only pumped fields. Everything else will run off due to leveling. But yes we have the normal pumped water north of us in a few fields.

Have found that when it's "every piece of flood shoots at them," it's a bad deal after the first few days.

We are definitely better off than last year, and hopefully will have some backwater by mid December, but I wouldn't be shocked if we dry right back up going into the holiday season either.
