Just part of it, but that doesn't mean I can't hate it for you. And be glad you've Remi for solace.

My heart goes out to you - it hurts to loose a friend and companion. I lost Sassy at the age of 12 - cancer. Abby is 10 now, I don't think I can do another one.

So very sorry Dave, can't imagine what that's like. I thought of her recently when I came across this picture so I'll share it here as a tribute, so glad I got to hunt with her.

I'm working on that relationship. It does help to have Remi greeting me when I get home.

My truck is loaded down with blind material and tools and I'm heading to the camp in just a bit. We have a good bit of work to do, but the first thing we tackle in the morning is the deployment of the crab traps. I hope to have a mess to head home with on Sunday. I'm not expecting to see any waterfowl, but there may be a chance with everyone out running around this weekend.

Blake and I got a good start/base on the boat hide and blind. The water is even higher than last weekend, but the excavator is currently working on the levee breech. The wiegon grass is gone, replaced by green sea water. Looks like we have a crab lease.

I don't have much natural cover to work with as everything is dying from the salt and being taken away by the waves. "If" we stay in this lease we will have to move this blind.

Blake found pizza slice earrings in his back pack......I didn't ask any questions.

Made me think of Blake the Cowardly Lion of OZ on a long ago mudhole teal hunt:

Folks with the marsh before us brushed with canes cut far enough before the season to be dead and were just a pile of dead cane they added more to the following year. I hauled all that out and started using fresh-cut, some of which would sprout and I'd leave what was live at season's end to start a more natural appearing stand of cover.

Was too successful by the time that photo was taken and had to wade in and thin it for visibility south before each big duck season, but eventually thinned my patch to bare bones with poison. Easier to supplement than wade through it on my kinda, sorta "island".

Over here fuming over water levels currently up to, and over, docks, pumping east winds (and big tides) all this week, and then potential for this storm at the 11th hour. Still a ton of uncertainty whether it may make it even far enough west to impact the SW La crowd, but some kind of impacts to SE La appear pretty dang likely, high water at very least. Great !

Little better odds of front making it to us Sun-Mon and also late next week, only tiny sliver of positive I'm taking from current model runs and forecasts.

Yeah current models show you guys on the “high water side”. Fingers crossed for wind shear, dry air, and cool waters!

Hell I had a scarf on for tricks n treats with my kids a year ago !

But then also I hunted the 2015 opener (on my current lease) in a t-shirt, and shorts under my waders, a la teal season attire.

Just never know. There's good bit of trends pointing to a nice front late next week, so hang tight!

The front late next week will give us seasonal temps. Across the heartland temps are running two states above normal. Meaning the weather SD is experiencing should be happening in Kansas and Kansas weather should be happening here. It's far less than ideal and that's putting it mildly.
