Hunters: Buddy and I

Not near as many ducks around today as yesterday. Only shooting in the area was from the same blinds in the lease next to us. We had one blind kill 10 ducks today, but all the others were poor. Don't understand how the other lease has so many more ducks than we do, and we are not seeing ducks.

Total: 3 - greenwing teal, 1 - Gadwall

Hunters: Me and Abby

Temp: Upper 50s

I pulled a decent blind, but decided not to put out any Mojos. It did not matter - you have to have ducks to see the Mojos for them to work. I had about 10 teal pass thru the decoys and I got 2, but very little other action. No ducks in our marsh

Total: 3 - greenwing teal, 1 - Gadwall

Two other blinds hunted one blind got 9, the other 4.

Correction - prior post should have been Dec 26, 2024

Date: Friday, Dec 27, 2024

Hunters: Abby and I

Temp: 60, only 5 - 10 mph wind , and no fog

Slow, slow, slow - I had 5 teal come in like they are supposed to and I got 2, and that was it. Not much shooting in the area. I had trouble getting my boat out of the parking area at the blind - water is low, and I pissed off my back. With the lack of ducks and my back not feeling well I decided to go home. I was told I did not miss anything.

Total: 2 - greenwing teal

MB, hoping this front brought you some birds, and "ouch" on the back issue.

Sunday, Jan 19, 2025

Hunters: Buddy and I

Temp: 40 degrees, wind NW 20 mph gusting to 30 mph

What a difference a day makes, we saw very few teal, and the Gadwall did not want to come within gun range. We hunted until 10:30 got frustrated and quit

Total: 3 - Gadwall, 1 - Spoonbill

Amazing how teal can be everywhere one day and gone the next. What I find interesting is that many of these days it seems like everyone in the 200k area around us also does great and then everyone does poor all at the same time again the next day or a couple after. In this case I would always say that the big north wind makes sense to push them south, but is that really what happened? I would love to see some backpack tracking studies on their day to day movement around the wintering grounds. What is the group's opinion when they are here one day but gone the next are they still around but just sitting or are the gone until the next push of "new" birds arrives?

Hunters: Jeff and Me

Temp: 34 degrees, wind N 20 - 30 mph

We broke ice all the way to the blind, we had to make a few runs through the decoys to break the ice. With that much wind we had white caps on any portion of water not iced over. We did not see many ducks moving, and the water was steadily flowing out of the marsh. That is why I hate the late season close - we lose all of our water.

Hunters: Me

Temp: 38 degrees, wind ESE 10 mph

Not as much wind today as yesterday, and saw more ducks too. I had 2 of my grandsons come in to hunt today, and I put them in a blind together. There aren't enough ducks in our area to hunt 3 to a blind. All of the ice is gone in the ponds, but still have some ice and snow on the walkways around the boats, which I found and busted my arse.

Totals: 5 - Greenwing teal, 1 - Gadwall

The boys had - 2 - Gadwall, 1 - Spoonbill, 5 - Greenwing teal

Hunters - Me again

Temp: 45 degrees, wind ESE 5 - 10 mph

I went to a blind I have not had much luck with this year, but others have, and the wind was right for this blind. Again this blind was not good for me - DNS
The boys went to the blind I hunted yesterday, they saw plenty of ducks but had trouble hitting them. They shot 1 box of shells each.

The boys total: 4 - Greenwing teal

Glad the boys were able to finish with some action!

I don’t do well in icy conditions either. Just not something southerners are constantly mindful about or able to recover from once it starts going bad. It’s that way for me at least. Hopped out of my truck last year at an icy boat ramp and was on my back before I knew what had hit me. Thankful I had enough clothes on that I didn’t hit my head.

Thanks for the reports MB, and I hope your icy spill didn't retweek your back issue!!!!
