Sundays

Postby don novicki » Thu Jul 10, 2025 3:59 am

Well it took almost all my life, but Sunday hunting has come to Pa.. Governor Shapiro signed the bill into law yesterday, so now we are waiting to see how they will work in Sundays, starting this season. If our current dates for duck season hold, we will be done long before Thanksgiving up here in the NW Zone and that won't be good. Regardless I am happy for the weekend warriors that they can get out another day. In my opinion, the guys that hunt the Lake Erie zone are going to lose 8 days, because I don't think P.I. will ever be open for Sunday hunting.

I came here to ask how that new law was going to affect you, Don. Beat me to it

Duck and goose seasons for this year will be unchanged from previous seasons, however next year we will be included in Sunday hunting. Probably won't affect me too much as I usually only hunt during the week. The guys who hunt Presque Isle State Park will be losing days next season, because I don't think they will allow hunting on Sundays there. The Park wouldn't mind one bit if duck hunting at P.I. went away for good.

Maybe it’ll further thin the crowd for you since the guys who had to hunt a day during the week can now hunt Sunday instead and save some vacation.

I grew up in PA so no Sundays always just was. Never really thought too much about it. Then I moved out of state and started hunting in states that allow Sunday hunting. Then I came back and wanted to hunt with family and friends. When it cut our time hunting together in half, it really pissed me off.

There are plenty of people screaming that Sunday hunting is not what they want. I don't know how you please people anymore because someone always has their knickers in a twist. My opinion is that if you don't want Sunday hunting......then don't go out. Problem solved.

On another note, it's been hot and dry here like a lot of places. Haven't been anywhere to see if there's ducks and ducklings but I'm sure there are some out there. Getting revved up for the season, and I'm actually going to Dove hunt when it opens, despite it being so hot. Won't be long now..............

Coming from Connecticut we didn’t have Sunday hunting either. Plenty of guys would go to Rhode Island and hunt there on Sundays. Every state I’ve been to since allows it and I have not seen how it hurts the birds pressure wise.

Today was our early Goose opener. I must’ve picked something up on the way to get Striker as I have been coughing crap up, bad headache, bodyaches, overheating then having chills since Monday evening. Today I feel like I’m winning the battle. We don’t have a lot harvested around here, but I’ve got a couple days off next week so hopefully I can get the kids out there.

Finally found a Sportspal Canoe and am picking it up tomorrow. It's 14ft nice and tight, no dents, and comes with 3 paddles, 2 of which have never been on the water, 2 brand new life jackets, 2 gunwale seats, 2 foam seats, and an anchor all for 275 bucks. I guess good things come to those who wait. I want to do a lot more water hunting this year, and this will allow me to do it.

What is a "light" canoe made of? (I've had an aluminum 16' Smokercraft since college that hasn't moved in quite some time, because my glass pirogue, while not as comfortable, is easier to load in my dotage.)

According to the spec sheet it's 42lbs. I had a 14 footer before and it was easy to load/unload. One thing though, I need to sharpen my canoe skills so I'm going to be out quite a bit in the next 2 weeks hitting the inland lakes.

Neat, even my pirogue's heavier than that. Have fun with it.
