If you use a 1 1/8" paddle bit they'll set right in flush, just glue the in, let the glue set then lay the resin, tadah, no floating caps. This one will prob just get a varnish though, since the wood is warped every which way, there's a lot of gaps and cracks that I'd have to tape from the bottom, don't feel like putting that much work into it yet.
