Welder, the uses are endless. You can fix and create so much stuff that will save you a lot of money. money you could use for other stuff like a .......pistol. Nothing says you can't fix and make stuff in your spare time to sell. The trouble with a welder is once you see what you can do, then you need grinders, chop saws, torch, .........etc. LOL

Yeah, but it would be a quick "O" if I actually spent $14,000 on anything besides a house. I'd just die of heart failure or remorse.

Be a little more optimistic. It's not just 14000. It a business write off. Write it off on your taxes.

A decent MIG will weld anything that an ARC welder will do, only 10x cheaper. If you want to make some real money off your friends and neighbors, get one that will accept a spool gun for aluminum. Very few people can weld aluminum.

I thought a MIG would only do up to about 3/16" steel? I could be wrong, since I don't know a damn thing about it. That, and they're about 100 bucks more than this stick welder.

That may be true, but I've welded a lot of stuff with a small 110 volt MIG. And if you are learning - you'll love the MIG. I taught myself by trial and error with one.

Depends on what you buy...we've got MIGs that will weld up to 1/2", but you don't wanna know the cost of that.

I agree with trip, A little 110v MIG is a helluva lot easier to learn (and make decent welds with) right out of the gate.
I honestly don't remember the last time I arc welded something.

I still think u should get the 14000 dollar one. I will help you spend your money if you need me too. Always easier to spend someone else's money.

That's $450. The arc welder I'm looking at is only $300. What gives?

What I want to know is can I build a bumper for my Jeep to mount a winch and some pull shackles to with a MIG welder? If the answer is no, then an arc welder it is. If the answer is "yes, if you spend $900", then the answer is still an arc welder. And like I said, both my other compound neighbors have MIGs, but nobody has an arc welder. Sort of a community thing.

Pick what you want, I'm just spending your money. To me, the extra ease for a rookie would be worth the extra hundo.

I would feel confident making a bumper with the little one we have at the shop, and my welds would take much less grinding after the fact too.

Do you ever want to do any light weight stuff like 18 ga cold rolled? You'll blow it out with a stick.

If your going to build it out of anything heavier than 3/16, then arc.

If your going to be welding anything dirty, then arc.

Otherwise, MIG.

Taurus PT22. I've always wanted a .22, for economy of shooting. I like to shoot. A lot. But I'm also cheap. It's quite a conundrum, one which having a .22 pistol will help.

.22 ammo is impossible to find on this end of the shore right now. I'd buy the welder and stock up on what ammo you can find. Im sure you already own at least one .22.

You got that right. I haven't been able to find ANY LR, small boxes, big boxes, high-test, target, nothing. Everybody's been out for 3 weeks at least. I'm heading down to Fredericksburg this weekend for a wild game dinner. We're gonna hit up the Ganders, Walmarts, and BPS while over there. You want a couple boxes if I find any?

Since your neighbors have a mig buy a spool of wire, $10 cheap, an burn a bunch of metal up. By doing this you can get a feel for it and how to work the puddle then transfer the technique to arc welding. Thin metal can be very hard unless you are very experienced to arc weld. With an arc you can burn just about anything with the right rod. If you have access to mig get the arc

Assa I welded for a while with both arc and mig building frames for old rat rods, I say go mig. I used a millermatic, cant remember the number but it did everything I wanted and never found a limit to it. Easier to learn on as well and when you get the hang of it you will never need another welder. Next you need a plasma cutter.

Yes. My neighbor and I are both searching for the bulk packs. I think they are (10) 50 round boxes, but we will take what we can get at this point. He works at Wallops so it wouldnt be a problem for one of us to meet you to pick them up. Thanks for the offer.

Pretty sure every time I've been in the Gander's around here they've had handgun ammo and .22 stuff. You guys really that hard off on finding it? I can snap a pic of what they have next time I'm in there if you want to see if it's worth it to get it for you.

Last time there was a shortage on ammo, Gander was charging $60 a brick of 22 Thunderbolts, fucking price gougers.

Assa, why you going with the Taurus? They'll be a little harder to find right now, but spend the extra money (I know) and get a Walther P22 or a Ruger SR22, you'll be much happier with those. If you gotta have the tip barrel, at the very least get the Beretta, I can tell you from experience that I send Taurus's back defective 3:1 over all other guns. The lifetime warranty is nice, but I can almost assure you that you are going to have to use it.
