I moved here pretty recently and decided to try and get into fishing due to the river.
Lets just say it hasn't worked out. I'm a horrible fisherman.

Well the Big C is a great river for ducks. The Kalama is great for fishing with that awesome green colored water. Hire a guide to see how to do the fishing, money well spent. There are a lot of great guys on the forums also. There is tripod (3legged) and QH Paw from Oregon but not sure we have Washington guys on here.

Yeah, i know qh. Don't think there's many Washington guys on here.
Fishing wise I've turned to plunking. Safe to assume you're from AK. Do you have any experience with kuiu gear? Or is that Canada ..

When I have fished the Kalama, we backtrolled quikfish through the holes. No knowledge about the kuiu? What is this?

teb knows, I live right across the big "C" from the Kalama. I used to fish it in my drift boat from the logger bridge down to the park. I really haven't been in fishing mode for the past few years.
There have been a ton of bills kegged up right at the Kalama for a week or two, according to Clyde.

Teb, the plunking out on the big"C" will start picking up some in a month or so. You're between runs on Kalama right now but, you could still hook steelhead. Make sure you check the regs, Oregon went to all barbless on the Columbia this year, don't know if Washington did the same.

There is more beer in them than what is deemed necessary to have a good time. Cuomo is working on getting us on track too.

Similar to sitka clothing, but cheaper. Though still expensive.

Yeah, there's been a lot of scaup on the east end of cottonwood.
A raft of them almost stretched from bank to bank. The most I've seen, but this is the first time I've really paid attention.
I'm not sure how much I'll get into fishing this year. Last year I bought
all of the gear, but didn't go out much. Just don't have the motivation.

A Growler is just a container to fill up with beer on tap from a
brew pub, bar, etc. For about $12. (Mines a 2L)
They sell them with a screw cap or a plunger like mine.
I'd stay away from the screw cap unless you're going to kill it that night.
With the plunger the beer stays for about 3 days. I fill up with
stouts so i don't have to worry about the beer going flat as much as
I would with an ale.

Mine have caps on them, but they have a plunger in the cap. Doesn't matter much since I drink them that day usually.
Are you from Astoria? My step brother-in-law(if that's a real thing) just moved here from Astoria.

Screw caps are just fine as long as they have the rubber seal on the inside not the cardboard disc. Screw ons work just as well as the swing tops as long as they are firmly tightened. Properly filled, and growler, screw on or flip top, can last for weeks as long as its not opened. Once opened either style should be consumed within 24 hours.
As for ales vs stouts, um yeah, a stout is an ale. A stout is just a different style of ale, just like Heineken is a different style than miller light, different styles, still lagers.
