HELP

Postby assateague » Thu Feb 07, 2013 4:02 pm

I'm getting ready to go to the grocery store to get some stuff I need for dinner. One of the ingredients is cream. The last time I made this, all they had was a quart, so I got a quart. There's plenty left for dinner tonight, but I don't know if it's bad. The date is Dec 29th, 2012, but it doesn't smell bad at all. (Doesn't smell like anything, actually). So does cream stink when it's bad like milk, or does it just go bad? I don't want to buy more if I don't have to.

Most the time I'm with you, but how much does a carton of cream cost? And you are feeding your family with it.

Edit: If you are just using it for yourself, and it doesn't smell bad, go for it. I'm assuming you'll know pretty quick once you taste it if it is bad.

pour it out and see if its seperated into a sour cream type substance and a whey like water stuff, if its still thick use it up, hell, if its not smelly i would use it regardless unless its something sweet

I poured some out, and it looks like it's separated. Oh well. It's for Chicken Tikka Masala, so it probably wouldn't hurt at all. But I'm not going to use it. Not because I'm worrried about anyone getting sick (Goldie  ), but because I'd hate to waste all the other ingredients I'd have ion the pot if it didn't turn out. It''s the last thing to add.

Im with gold on this one go pick up another quart of cream. Then again I wont drink milk that is with in a few days of its expiration date..... when I was a kid I got served spoiled milk one time at a pancake house. Nastiest experience ever so im now a little gun shy when it comes to dairy products.

Milk is an easy one- before it's bad, it starts to taste sweeter. Even after it stinks like a bastard, it's very, very sweet. But I have no idea what bad cream tastes like. This tasted very bland.

I bought the damn cream. Whoever said "it's not much" is high. $1.99 for a half a freaking pint. While there, I did pick up a spiral sliced ham that was marked down from $27.99 to $9.00, so the trip was a positive.

^^^ the ham also went bad on 12/29/12 too.

That's not a ham---it's spiral cut botulism.

They just get a little "stronger" tasting. My cheapness has led me to eat many things I probably shouldn't have, although I've never had any ill effects. I consider the science experiment which my life basically is to be a result of my thriftiness. I do much dumb shit in the name of saving a buck. Some works, and some are lessons learned.
