DEER BACON?

Postby aunt betty » Sat Feb 23, 2013 3:55 pm

My dad shoots deer every year and they have them processed. ;(
Brother-in-law and sister-in-law know I want to process the deer myself. I get more steaks and jerky that way.
The parents brought over some deer for me. There was three big packages of ground meat and a couple packages of something I've never seen before. Deer bacon?

It looks a lot like smoked sausage that's been sliced. I was like...meh, whatever. Smoked sausage.
Then I cooked some so I could make bacon, egg, cheese, biscuits.

DAYUM THAT CHIT IS GOOD! If you have deer processed...ask your processor about if they make bacon out of deer meat.
I've heard that it's incredibly stupid to fuck around with a crazy man's head.

I substitute 50% bacon ends and peices for 50% of the fat I use when I make sausage or burger.

I think they make deer bacon the same way they make turkey bacon, but I'm not 100% on that.

So, I'm assuming this is more of a meat mashed into form bacon, than a strip of meat and fat like pork bacon?

Yes. Same deal as turkey bacon.

Turkey bacon is un-natural.

So is deer bacon. I hate turkey bacon, but it's made the same way deer bacon is.

Turkey bacon eaters are the limp-wristed version of bacon eaters.
