GPS smartphone app

What is a good one? Not for turn by turn but for backtracking in the woods...or marking a spot etc. Would like a track-back feature and ability to save tracks like on a garmin etrex. Nothing too fancy. Just like the e trex would work for me.
I've heard that it's incredibly stupid to fuck around with a crazy man's head.
