Yeah I was a kid too. Middle school age, may be early high school. Being hooked up to an animal that flies is kinda weird and difficult to keep on the downlow, especially with a 9' rod and yellow fly line.

Haha! Did I ever tell you guys about the time I watched my buddy hook a sea lion on 80lb braid while we were bottom fishing at Gold Beach? We were using rubber squid rigs for ling cod, he starts horsing the rod like Bill Dance and looks at me and says "these lings fight like m f'er". A half second later the sea lion breaks the surface, rolls to his back and lets out a big bark! While laughing my ass off I could see a chartreuse green squid in the corner of his mouth. He lost about 150 yards of braid and burnt the piss out of his thumb.
That lion would break the surface every 50 yards or so barking like a scolded pup.
