I think it was Tripod talking about those offshore trips from Washington and Oregon as well. Just don't know what they come home with. Those are hogs you were catching, sounds fun.
on the east coast, the charter fleets out of oregon inlet and hatteras are hard to beat tuna fishing.

I agree with this. Also pretty good marlin fishing the right time of the year.

You realize Ocean City, MD is the white marlin capital of the world?

Yes. Depends on the year tho. Those guys run down here to fish sometimes because there are no fish up there.

I did this last summer just to see the numbers from OC, va beach, and Oregon inlet. Pull up sunset marina, va beach fishing center, and Oregon inlet fishing center/pirates cove going back two or three years and start reading the reports from mid to late July into October. The numbers of whites and sails are incredible, and you'll also notice the same boats listed day after day with large numbers of releases. Lots of blue ones out of va beach last summer too. Mucho grand slams in vb and oi.[/quote]
The numbers are insane sometimes. Days of 40-50 fish. Crazy. And you know if their catching that many they're seeing probably 60-70 fish a day. We had a day last year where we went 10 for 25. Not great odds. Should have had at least 20 but my dad lost a few, the mates jumped a few off. Capt. lost a few. Just one of those days.

Personally, I've never understood the attraction of marlin fishing. Paying that much money to work that hard, to catch a fish that you're going to release because it's not worth a damn for anything but catching. Not my cup of tea. Unless you're fishing in the Open- in which case I can see giving it a whirl, when you have the chance to win over a million bucks. I do wish I didn't get seasick, though, because I'd love to go out dolphin fishing every chance I got. That's some delicious fish.

No, that's the homo capital of Kansas though. I am in a dfferent county, but thats not my point.

I have done a lot of traveling in El Carib, including Mexico, Belieze, USVI, etc....and they all do claim to be the marlin capital. Just saying buddy. In fact, it was news to me they have them that far north.

If you lived where 100 lbs was a big fish, you might see the attraction.

If I come out for that goose hunt will you put me on a pod of whales so I can harpoon one? Maybe we could take your homemade boat?

We never charter people if that's what you mean by paying that much money. We know people that have boats and we fish with them. We just has to pay for part of the fuel cost. And reeling them in isn't that fun IMO. Hooking them is the fun part. I could never reel in another marlin and be happy just hooking them and passing the rod. Well unless its a blue marlin. Still haven't caught one of those bastards.

Smoked Whitey is very tasty. Ate some smoked striped marlin and spearfish in kona and it was on time too.

Heck yeah.

As for the "capital" business, I suspect it's just because they host the White Marlin Open. Lots and lots of money in that bastard.

The 2012 White Marlin Open featured huge tuna, a Maryland State record shark, and a white marlin that earned top honors and $1,429,000 in prize money.

253 boats, from Florida to New England, registered to compete for over $2,300,000 in prize money for catches of white & blue marlin, tuna, wahoo, dolphin and shark. Ocean City, MD lived up to its title of “The White Marlin Capital of the World,” as 960 whites were caught during the 39th annual event with all but 8 released back into the ocean.

The WMO is one of the most fun tournaments I've fished. The Pelican tournament down in ft pierce has some of the best food, but the scenery on the dock at harbor island in OC is something else.

I sold a 40 last year and haven't missed it one bit. That 40 hung in the safe and never got shot, 22 pistols are fun and relatively inexpensive to shoot.

And this this feels so comfortable in my hand.

It is a really comfortable gun to shoot. And I think the trigger pull on single action is about 3/4 of a pound. Shoots nice. My only "what the hell?" is the disassembly. Seems a little odd to me.

New wheels and tires on my utility flatbed trailer. Now I feel comfortable towing it more than 10 miles without carrying my portable air tank. Next up, cut the gay welded on hinged ramp off the back and new safety chains.
Then it's new tires on the 16ft Jon boat trailer, soon...soon.
