Not going to deny it happens. They need kill footage, and if you have the money, there are ways to get it.

Theres also lots of places you can go and have your pick of 340"+ elk, without much effort, and not far from you Oregon-Washington-Nor Cal fellas. Oregon's trophy units rival what New Mexico is posting in terms of mega bulls.

O.K Let me clarify. During late September threw October the deer basically don't move at all in day light hours. Of course their are exceptions to the rule. Such as large ranches with minimal hunting pressure. Most of the time its all in the dark. I hunt an area that has a large population of deer, and I set my trail cameras out in September. I've have ton's of photos and video. The legal bucks start to move at 9 o'clock at night and the big boys get off their ass till around midnight and they are all back on their beds hour or so before day light. Factor in the regular 100 degree weather and the worst misquotes you can ever imagine and you'd know what I'm talking about.

So the only deer you saw, is when you were walking through the woods. OK, got it. I see why that wouldn't work there then.

9 times out of 10 every blacktail killed is fuckin earned. I hunt everyday during the season for maybe a handful of chances.... If we were allowed to hunt the month of November. It would be amazing.

THere's only way to lay this to rest.

Hunt swap.

We have our faces grafted onto eachother's body and hunt each other's states and seasons next year.

Bill, sorry but, you've got seriously bad info on the only 2 units that fall under what you are talking about in Oregon. First, it takes 18-19 points right now to be in the running for those tags. Oregon has no way of accumulating more than 1 point per season. Second, the main area of our state that the wolves have chosen to expand and take up residence is in that same corner of the state.
I currently have 5-6 elk points(in Oregon). If I chose to wait for the big 2 draws, the point creep would put that draw near 28 points by the time I get to 20. By the time I get to 28, it may be higher but, it won't matter because by then the bleeding heart liberals that run this state will have let the wolves have the upper hand and it won't be the same hunt. Also, if I live long enough, I won't have the legs to hunt those big boys by the time I jhave the points to even be in the running. I can assure you,the guys that get the 340 bulls in that unit do not walk out to a shed with a heater with a Jack and Coke and pick one from the herd. It is much rougher terrain than sitting next to a bean field. Sorry to burst your bubble but, that's just the facts.
If I could get these easy 340" elk hunts you speak of in Oregon, you think I would drive all the way to Wyoming? Well, actually, I would, just to hunt with my son and grandson but that's beside the point.

I'm Down  . I do have an in, to hunt whitetails in the mid west. My wife's Uncle owns a large farm in Bond county Illinois. I need to get out there some day. I'm actually more interested in duck hunting the property then anything else.

And Bill, you can buy an over the counter archery tag anytime and I will walk you out to the jungle behind my place and, even take you to where the elk hang out. I'd be more than happy to help you butcher and pack out a roosevelt elk.
You will have to spot and stalk, the neighboring properties do not allow stands.

QH - I gotta take you at your word on that one, I know those units are a once in a long lifetime draw. I had not considered the wolf problem.

If I got close enough to an elk to poke at him with stick and string, I'd have a hard on up to my chin.

I've said it before, I would throw all of my duck hunting gear in a fire right now if it meant I go elk hunting this fall.

Seriously-puddle duck hunters are held in higher regard than deer hunters.

Check with the type of place that would supply a cabinet maker or upper end tools. Mine was 30 bucks.

Ha ha ha Warlock you are my kinda guy. I have done a lot of turkey spot and stalk, and of late, stalking ducks and geese. Next year I am going to get a cow decoy and walk right into a big flock of snows just to do it. I am too old to want to climb into a tree. I would rather hunt from a ground blind.

Deer hunting is for folks that have not mastered coyote calling.

Sorry, but deer are not all that smart. And the target area is....HUGE. I have done some dumb things in the woods and still been able to kill deer. Not the meat jacking ManlyMan does, but I have pissed out of the stand, dropped my rifle, fallen asleep, etc and still been able to kill deer. Its just not that hard to do.

My plan is to sit in my comfy ground blind and blast one that comes into range. I will be sitting there looking at WFF on my phone and shoot one so I can give GKR some meat to make that good jerky out of.
