They're actually jammed, shut down by the govt, to prevent any other devices which may be triggered the same way.

Well, I dont know how my cousin was able to call home then. Maybe they blocked him after some time had passed.

I don't think it was actually true.

No, my cousin has ran in several Bouston marathons. He is a fitness junkie.
And I know he called his dad and his brother. Would bet money all of that really happened.
I think you are talking about the cell phone shut off?
"Verizon Wireless has been enhancing network voice capacity to enable additional calling in the Copley Square area of Boston. Customers are advised to use text or email to free up voice capacity for public safety officials at the scene. There was no damage to the Verizon Wireless network, which is seeing elevated calling and data usage throughout the region since the explosions occurred."
Boston customers may have issues w/wireless voice & data service due to spike in network activity. Our Wi-Fi remains on at #BostonMarathon.

The only way I see cell towers going off line is if the police ASKED Verizon or at&t to switch them off. I'd be surprised if they would both companies have a gold rating in not giving into govt silliness.
Sent from my phone.
