He was chasing a crippled bird in his Marsh rat when a gale pushed him out of sight. Worth swamped twice getting back to the big boat, then grounded on the falling tide. David was wearing a lifejacket, but at some point was swamped and swept down to the rocks at Barview, where rescuers, including the Coast Guard, found him. Body temp was down to 80 and he couldn't be revived despite a long attempt on the way to and in the hospital. Worth nearly did the same frantically trying to cross the bay to the Coast Guard station in his own Marsh rat (the big boat was still grounded late last night).

Well that explains why the Marsh Rat website got shut down a while back. I was curious why, but never heard. Thats too bad, David was a nice guy and my buddy and I really enjoyed dealing with him when we bought our Rats from him at the OWF. We haggled with him a little, and after seeing our persistence he laughed and said "I can tell you two aren't going to give up..."

Good guy to do business with, my condolences to his family.

I camped with a good friend of his that was suppose to be on the trip when he died but stayed home because he had the flu. I use to see David often driving through my town. His kid is still running the business but I don't know how hard he is trying or if things are just that tough for the past four years. I see his boy (David Jr.) around town about every month. I've heard rumors that the business is for sale but I've been hearing these rumors for a few years now. I don't personally know the guy so I've never asked. I went to David Jr.'s house before I bought my aquapod and he told me I was too heavy to use his product which says a lot about his honesty. Maybe because I'm close, I don't know. David Jr. specifically told me to buy an aquapod.

BTW the website still works.... http://www.marshrat.net/

Ya, I just got done looking through it. I cant remember when, but some time back I went to it, it said (in short) that the site was closed - hopefully be back up after a while. It was pretty vague, so I just thought that business was slow and they had shut it down.

They're great boats but after being in both, I think the aquapod is a better overall boat.

I actually found some of Boys's decoys on the lower Columbia. I called him after I found them and took them home. He let me keep them, they look like they had been sitting on the water for over a year. lol I painted them like surf scoter.

Sportsmans use to stock marshrats and so did fisherman's in Oregon City. Now fisherman's stocks aquapods and Sportsmans changed to wholesale sports. Wholesale sports doesn't have marshrats. When GI joes went out of business, some local guys were getting GREAT deals on the marshrats. I wish I would have know about it. One guy claims that he bought them for $250 each but this guy is full of $hit a lot of the time too.
