Not sure when the terminology "morphed", but it was fairly recently. Sounds stupid to me, but "PP Deck" is the new "synergy". Which coincidentally enough, also sounded stupid to me.

what the fuck is "synergy"?

nevermind, i don't really want to know, i just want to go ride a 4 wheeler and spray roundup on shit.

working towards a degree. This is just getting my foot in the door really, the position is basically a WMA maintenance worker that sprays weeds and builds fence. both things that i know i can do, but have to deal with this "pick me!" bullshit.

Bulldog0156 wrote:What is the position?

I would assume that since you worked concrete in the past you will be relying on education to get this position. Make that the focus of your resume.

The guy told me to get my resume to him ASAP. I think he's actually more interested that i have actual work experience and specifically the proper use and maintenance of tools. I just don't know how to dress up "poured monolithic concrete, used tools and babysat 45 yr old guys who bitched too much."

This is so easy. You have long term experience in one of the more strenuous jobs a man can do. I worked masonry with my best friends who are lifetime masons. All I did was move block, build three legged scaffolds, and move the block up to them for 8 months. I would jump into the truck hoping we were pouring a basement cuz raking was funner. A nice honest cover letter that talks about the fact post pounding sounds fun as hell and your not some feather toed woodpecker chaser. Explain in few words your seeking experience within the cover letter. Maybe finish out your resume with a goals section that states as number two: gain experiences outside of college while earning degree...number one could be apprehend terrorists

Look online and find out what state certification is needed to spray weeds. A pro active question in the interview could be (cuz I bet they provide it if needed) should I pursue the herbicider licence to spray these nasty invasives or is it provided. Have you looked into what species of plants they will have you spraying on this WMA? YOu shouild have some info logged onto your brain about the issues they wish you to deal with.

No need to lie if you know what you're doing. Ever see dirty cars, with bird shit all over them in a dealer's lot? Nope. Same car, same value, same price, but why not keep them clean and armor alled? Certainly helps them sell better, and people are the same way. Consider me a resume detailer.

When applying for a federal position, you will see in the job description a list of requirements. Some of them sound silly, like "must be capable of lifting 50 pounds". What often happens, however, is the person looking it over has a checklist with all of the requirements and three colomns, "Exceeds criteria", "Meets criteria", and "Does Not Meet Criteria". One check in the "does not meet" colomn usually gets your CV tossed. It's worth your time to go through the list of requirements and create that overlay.

I was told my CV looks very good by the guy on campus who has been doing it for forty years. He knows the difference. I'll send it to you if you would like to see it.

More things:

DON'T PUT YOUR PICTURE ON IT

List some of the specfic courses you have taken in school relevant to the job. A brief, one sentance description is enough.
