Lungs/heart/liver it a lot bigger target than a brain. I can be off 6" and still get a vital shot. If your off by 4" you will blow off a jaw and the deer will run off and starve to death a week later. To date, I've never tracked a deer for more than 200 yards before I found it.
tell you what, when i ever just take off the jaw, i will call you and you can come help me track it.
i take head shots with my muzzle loader when i have the chance.
you need more trigger time or less deer fever
I'm not saying I couldn't do it. But it's just not an ethical shot IMO. I'm not nocking you for it...I just wouldn't ever do it. Too many variables when shooting a deer to aim for a target the size of an apple vs a basketball sized target.
you have huge apples or small headed deer. you need trigger time. what do you shoot for when hunting prairie dogs?
The brain on a deer is no bigger than an apple.
Why do you think I need more trigger time? Just because I won't take a head shot?
No prairie dogs around here. I shoot squirrels in the chest though.
1st i never compared the brain of anything to an apple.
2nd why the fuck would you take a chest shot on a squirrel?
as stated in here I WILL TAKE A HEAD SHOT INSIDE 100 YARDS IF IT THERE.
and if you cant hit a fucking apple at 100 yards you have no business out spraying bullets all over the place
maybe i should invite you out for a sod poodle shoot, but you will be shooting at very small targets at a long fucking way away.[/quote]
I can hit an apple at 100 yards with no problem. But there are too many variables when shooting a living animal in the woods. Maybe there is a little twig you can't see half way between me and the deer...maybe the deer moves his head a little right as you pull the trigger...a chest shot is a lot safer and kills the deer just fine.
