Bow shots are inside 20 yards, and I can usually see any small limbs in the way. 150 yard rifle shot...not so much.

Only 20 yards?!? If all my deer shots were at 20 I'd ear hole em everytime.

How far are your shots? Most the stands I hunt are set up for 15-25 yard shots.

Maybe 30 if it's an open lane and the deer is calm. But I usually setup 15 yards from where I think they will be coming through. Double lung with a rage puts em down quick.

Do you really like Rage heads? I've heard mixed feelings about them.

Yup. I think I've argued about this with you guys before. 4 of the 7 guys at our camp use them, and haven had a problem yet. Every deer has painted the ground red...even had a guy gut shoot one a couple years ago and we had enough blood to track. Only made it about 150 yards.

I live in high desert. Spot and stalk hunts on muleys can have a good shot be 40 - 60, and I've talked to some that will practice to 70 or 80. My comfort zone max is 60.
This guy came to my shop to buy a knife and said he was a little embarrassed to admit it but he shot this buck at 70yds.

Damn. I practice out to about 60 but don't think I would take a shot on a deer at that distance. If I had a solid backstop I'd like to try getting to 100 some day.

You guys use Lumenoks? They are pretty badass to target shoot at long distances with. I shoot mine every once in a while at 50 yards just before dark.

I have some for the crossbow but none for my bow. Definitely cool to watch.

I keep saying I'd like to try stacking pins some day, only on a target, but just to try.

I took the jaw off of my first antelope. Was a running shot at 200 yards, I thought it was a good shot. Once it slowed him down I sent one through the pump station.

would not have pulled the trigger on a head shot in that situation.

I'm not saying I couldn't do it. But it's just not an ethical shot IMO. I'm not nocking you for it...I just wouldn't ever do it. Too many variables when shooting a deer to aim for a target the size of an apple vs a basketball sized target.

you have huge apples or small headed deer. you need trigger time. what do you shoot for when hunting prairie dogs?

Those G5 game points look like they tear shit up. Bought some for squirrels but have yet to use them.

I'm very happy with their durability and flight. I have shot them to 50 and they hold very consistent with field points.

Good to know. They looked like the best small game heads out there when I bought them so I figured I'd give them a try. I have a half dozen or so of the spring arm judo points and they get fucked up after just one shot. Now if the squirrels would just climb down out of the damn trees for me to shoot at them I would be set.

The newer, faster bows wreck the judos.

I use them for practice on coke cans. They're basically all flat field points now.

Didn't they come out in the 70s or 80s? Bows just weren't that fast then. My wife and kid shoot them with good results.

No idea when they came out but I agree with you. The arms just rip off when they hit the ground or whatever. I'll have to pull out my bear whitetail and see how they work with it.

1st i never compared the brain of anything to an apple.
2nd why the fuck would you take a chest shot on a squirrel?
as stated in here I WILL TAKE A HEAD SHOT INSIDE 100 YARDS IF IT THERE.
and if you cant hit a fucking apple at 100 yards you have no business out spraying bullets all over the place
maybe i should invite you out for a sod poodle shoot, but you will be shooting at very small targets at a long fucking way away.

Because my grandpa wouldn't give me another bullet that day if I wasted anything but what little meat's on the ribs. And I really wanted to get back out there and shoot another squirrel.

I can hit an apple at 100 yards with no problem. But there are too many variables when shooting a living animal in the woods. Maybe there is a little twig you can't see half way between me and the deer...maybe the deer moves his head a little right as you pull the trigger...a chest shot is a lot safer and kills the deer just fine.
