Speaking of turds.

I was heading back to dump a bag of corn last week, and I came across a dead river otter next to a ditch through the soybean field. If you're not familiar with otters, they're about 3 feet of solid muscle and teeth, and I've never heard/seen one killed by anything around here. Then about 20 yards further I came across this pile. That's a size 13 boot, and the poop was full of soybeans, hair, and what looked like choke cherries. Any idea what could have pooped it, feel free to let me know.

Ha ha. But that looks like black bear shit to me. Can't go 10 yards around here without stepping into a big choke cherry seed log this time of year.

At risk of staying on topic, or nearly so, one of our marsh chores today was hauling out an old blind we'd replaced with one in a new location, but this fellow objected:

Roping and hoisting a POed 7-footer out of a pit blind may have been a rodeo, but getting my bow line back was a circus.

Took a page out of Rick's book today. This way we won't be scrambling to make cover out of leafless mesquite trees this year.

Rick, have you found if it makes a difference in the way you spin the twine? Alternate direction every other time or all one way?

I habitually spin it the same way, but don't see why it would matter which direction you go, as long as there's a twist.

I would've happily pulled that outta there.... and rolled it in flour and dunked in 375º oil.

Gator tail is good eating but like frogs they smell like shit out of the water.

I haven't had the chance to hunt one yet but I know what Rick is talking about with the smell.
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” ― Samuel Adams

The meat sells for crazy money now and is "ok" - if most of the fat's been removed. But the animal and fat both stink (differently), and I guess I've just handled enough of the nasty things that eating one holds no appeal for me.

Olly, folks eat the whole thing, some swearing by BBQed ribs for instance, but the current craze is "Cajun wings," the legs off little farm raised gators.

Blackened gator tail w/ hollandaise is my favorite way to eat. As Rick said, it's only good if you cut the fat off. The fat will give a gamey/fishy taste. Pretty strong too. Also the tail is the only part that's white meat. The dark meat on a gator can be horrible, not bad if brined and put in gumbo, sauce p, etc of the likes but still not that great.
