Picked it up today, changed the plugs, and ran some good gas with seafoam through it. It's running rich as fuck. When I adjust the rich/lean knob it doesn't help much and if I go too far in with it it starts back firing. Gona take it out to the lake in the morning and see if it does better with clean water instead of the barrel.

Looks just like that 40hp I had.

Nothing wrong with a little smoke. Hell I had a 60's 9 hp rude, the fuel mix was 1 quart 30w to 6 gallons of fuel. We called it the angry mosquito. That thing is probably still running.

I'm not talking about the smoke, I just wouldn't have handed any money over until I saw it running.

Disappointment is an understatement. Only ran maybe 21 with a load. Was hittin 23 with the same load with my 15 horse. This motors a turd, and for sale.

idk
It probly needs some carb adjustment and throttle adjustment. Prop is old. Might be the wrong pitch. Doesn't trim up high enough either. Paid 400, can probly get 650 or 700 out of it.

That's what I told him on the phone. Motor that old has has a few replacement props and you never know if the last guy slapped on the wrong one.

I feel like it wasn't gettin all the way up there. Once I ran of gas (luckily my brothers friend has a lake house right where we ran out) when I filled back up and left his dock it was running better hittin maybe 21-22, but still I was running faster with a load with my 15 horse. The prop could stand to be replaced. And the engine is running rich and fouling out my plugs. They're wet when I pull them out.

More gassy, but starting to foul the plugs and they are brand new. Also I've noticed that even in the highest trim position that its still negative trim. The engine is like this \ rather than /... It may go dead level at the highest point but I think the bow is still plowing a little.

If it's gassy then something isn't right. Maybe carb clean or different jet. Don't really know...maybe Jehler can help. And a transom wedge.
