Yukon wont start

Postby aunt betty » Sun Mar 23, 2014 4:43 pm

Trying to help neighbor's sister get their yukon going. The starter and battery is fine but it still wont start.
I've jumped the starter and got it going but for some reason turning the key won't do it.
Tried switching relays too. No luck.
I'm thinking it's the ignition switch. What do y'all think?

Sucks because the whole deal started with them asking if I'd put the new starter in. I said ok and then when I got the "bad" one out I had them test it. It was good. D'oh.
So I had them take the battery and test it too.
Fine. Damn...nothing is ever easy.

Had them try starting it in neutral and moving the gear shift around to make sure that switch is working.
So far, no luck.

If the tublers went bad, it's probably because the kinipler bearings are worn out...

See my boat starter thread. It's either the solenoid, or something's not grounding out.

It sounds like it won't turn over with the key. Put a test light on the starter solenoid and see if the light comes on when the key is turned on, if it doesn't, put the test light on the switch side of the neutral start switch, if the light doesn't come on, the problem is most likely the ignition switch itself. Sounds like a pretty simple problem but a major pain in the ass to track down. A test light is probably your best friend in this situation. Is the neighbors sister hot? Is that why you are helping?

Good luck.

Figured it out. The ignition switch was unplugged. The clip that snaps when you make the connection with all the wires was broken off. If the steering wheel was tilted up the connection would come loose. I'm going to fasten it with a couple zip-ties and call it fixed.

You have opened yourself up to a lawsuit when her car turns off and she gets into an accident and the air bags don't go off. Probably should get that fixed the right way.

Lawsuit?...when you repair a neighbors sisters car for forty bucks cash and there is no receipt. ..how can it be proved?

The lady drove the Yukon to Florida and traded for a Cadillac.

That truck is gone to me.
