3 clicks right and it'll be dead on. I'll do that tomorrow after I get a shorter tang screw.

Surely you mean left. And you probably need to go down a click too.

Well the way I see it, anything under 300 is dead, especially if I'm on!

What kind of rifle you shooting? We sight in my dad's .257 wby. mag for 0" at 300 yds. and get just under -8" of drop at 400. It is shooting at +3.5" at 200 yds. I also sight in my .243 for 300 yds, but I can't remember the trajectory off the top of my head.

I've never had a problem. I've shot deer ranging from 217 to 355 and always been in the boiler maker. Guess it just comes down to what you're comfortable with.

One night my dad was drinking and took it outside to show to his buddies and when he was done he leaned it up against the back bumper of his truck. He got up the next morning to go to work, and after backing up he realized he had never taken the thing back inside, and broke the stock. I was 5 or 6 at the time and he had wanted to get me a deer rifle so he took it to the gunsmith and got it re barreled to .243, so I would have a gun I could shoot when I was little and not flinch, and still be able to use it now for deer. A few years ago it randomly started shooting groups that were about a foot, so he glass bedded it. Now I can get 3 shots inside of a quarter if I'm having a good day.

He loves it. I can't remember what we he shoots from it off the top of my head, so I'll get back to you tomorrow when I can go to his reloading bench. Took him a while to find the right load though. He has to f=start wirking on a whole new load now though, because California is going lead free.

Yeah I see that. That has to really fucking suck. What's he plan on for shooting bullets? I'd imagine barnes is towards the top of the list?

.243 is a good little cartridge. I don't care what anyone says, it can be used effectively on elk. When either my dad or uncle where in their 20s, I think it was my uncle hunted elk for nearly a decade and a half with a .243 shooting 80 gr. soft points. That's all he could afford. The man shot 20 elk in 15 years and they all fell to no more than 2 shots. A few he put down on the run.

If I were to start reloading for it, I could safely make rounds that shoot faster than my dad's weatherby.

Yeah, he had some lead free bullet's before, (I can't recall the brand) but they exploded when they hit the deer, creating shrapnel that hamburgered the fuck out of most of the meat.

I honestly don't give a shit how fast a bullet is traveling. I care more about the group accuracy than anything else. You can't nor will any game animal be able to tell the difference between 100 fps.

Berger's do that as well but the difference is they go in about 5" then explode. I think Berger's are the way to go for large game using small calibers (6mm-.277"/7mm).

R. Chapman wrote:Your barrel has a lot of life. I doubt you'll be able to shoot that barrel out in your lifetime. I have an uncle who has shot out the barrel of a .243 (Savage 99, his first rifle), He literally put 10,000 rounds down the tube before he had Lilja make him a match grade .243 Winchester barrel. So far he has 2,000 down that barrel. He told me the accuracy went out between 5,000-6,000. We're talking 3/4 MOA (That's his standard for accuracy).
