Serious Question ??

I've never had a guy lease out from under me, however I have invited farmers or their kids to hunt with me which then turned them into hunters and I eventually quit hunting those farms.

Here's a great story - I once had a "friend" that had access to literally thousands of acres of farm land for free. We lived about 75 miles apart and We would trade hunts occasionally when one or the other of us had stale birds/fields. We'd hunt together maybe 5 times a season.
I called him once when I had a field holding 12-1300 geese and nearly as many mallards and we put together a group of killers and butchered birds for a weekend. Epic shoot.

Next season, I went to get permission and visit with the farmer only to find out that my "friend" had been there and had gotten permission already.

Oh really.

I went home and made about 3 dozen flyers that said "WATERFOWL LEASES WANTED - PAYING TOP DOLLAR FOR ACCESS TO FARM LAND" with a bogus number to call, and then posted them in every country diner, feed store and sale barn within 10 miles of his home range. You're welcome asshole.

See, that made you way more upset, didn't it?

No. The guy who showed up at the GPS co-ords was told that if I ever saw that boat back there again I would be at his public marsh honey-hole with an army the next day. Problem solved.

We all can agree on that.

If you only knew...this guy was on Avery "Pro-Staff" and was King Konte, big swinging dick, made all kinds of promises to his pro-staff buddies about taking them out for squaw - but had nowhere to take them.

Took him out for a long weekend with us, except he "got sick" after day two and went home Friday...and was back with a crew Monday thinking we had gone home Sunday...that's the definition of a dick move, last thing anyone needs is a bunch of Prostaff wannabes blabbing their fat yaps about spots

How is parking in a private field entrance that you have permission for illegal?

Let's say you are an anti hunter and you do that...

What is it then?

Trespassing. If you have legal right to be there, you can block the driveway with zero recourse

Beg to differ. If you don't own it, you can't prevent others from legally using the land, too.

Is your grandma deliberately doing something with the only intent being to try and prevent a hunter from taking game on land he/she has permission to do so on?

Probably not.

We weren't preventing anyone from hunting. We were just making sure we were the first to the field.
I think you took my original post the wrong way. This field was maybe 40 acres with a house in the middle of the one edge. It's not like there was room for 2 groups to setup out there. I don't know what the plan was if the kid did show. Didn't really matter to me.

It started by us taking him for bills in the layout on SagBay, and he was taking us on some fields and "his" public marsh spot...and over time (2 seasons or so) we were just hunting from the layout and never hunting mallards....he was constantly trying to convince us to let Avery's camera crew come film squaw and diver shoots (and heard, later through the grapevine he was posting all our squaw/diver pics on Avery's site and promising to take other staffers on hunts)...when it all blew up, we found out he was taking us to spots that he was wheezing from someone else. Just a dirtbag and a poor judge of character on our part.

I feel like that is when you know you are a real bad ass, when a huge company like that is trying to steel your spots.

Bad ass? We all felt like idiots...it did however make us reassess the reasons why we hunt and came to the conclusion it was best if we kept a lower profile and didn't post as many pics that draw unwanted attention.

This all happened 5+ years ago when shooting sea-ducks on the Lakes was gaining popularity, now it's pretty commonly done and the ports to go out of are fairly well known.

This............on a local level anyway

Been hunting ducks over 40 years, and have been though the stages, and learned early on to not be a braggert when killing a good mess-o-ducks. Doesn't take you long to find out who can keep their traps shut, and who has to brag about it. Before Google Earth, it took many "Columbus" discovery trips, lots of marsh tromping, and even a few flyovers in small planes to find the "out of the way" spots to hunt Mallards down here. They are the Holy Grail of ducks here because we get so few. Having several brothers that also hunt, we got to the point that when we found Mallards stacked in a hole, we only hunted them with each other. There are only a couple of local hunters that I will talk openly with, and know that they will "respect" what I tell them, as I do for them as well. Otherwise, it's the old A tells B, B tells C, etc........ very few people are gonna hunt alone. Duck hunting here has become very competitive here, with many, many new Duck Commanders coming our in force the past few years. You have to hunt a little smarter and a little harder than most to be successful on a regular basis, and what works one year, may not work the next. Due diligence pays big when the competition gets tough, and if you don't love it, you're not gonna go to the trouble.

Now I just look at the harvest data that USFW generates and read an estimate of 9,800 Squaw killed in 2012...and smile to myself.

Not everyone has an extra 10K laying around to do that, plus the more people do that the more farms stop letting people do it for free. Making it harder to break in to the sport for new comers. Long story short, you are hurting the sport when you do that.

It's either you get the leases or companies will lease it all up and then all that's left is public land. Watch it happen around here all the time.

Land owners usually lease out certain rights in each agreement... Ie: farming rights, hunting rights, etc...
So it shouldn't matter if a corporation leases the farming rights.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean.

Where I live companies lease out land for hunting. None of the ranchers want to just let you hunt when they can make several thousand a gun for deer around here.

Yes but it keeps birds around me,if I let guys in, most of them jump shoot them and kill a lot of hunting around me. then I have to drive 1 hr to get to more good hunting grounds. lease land With in 10 to 15 minutes of my house or drive an hour there then scout then drive an hour home???? I will lease land close to home.

Yeah, if a small % of people weren't willing to pay big $ then they would expect to get paid by everyone. That is my exact point.
