For the Louisiana contingent, is this our understanding of the latest set of dates for this fall? It's what's on LDWF website but can't recall if the most recent meeting confirmed them or was simply a notice of intent/proposed, etc.

Ducks, Coots, Mergansers East Zone:
Regular season: November 16 - December 1 and December 14 - January 26
Youth and veterans only: November 9 and February 1

West Zone:
Regular season: November 9 - December 8; December 21 - January 5; January 18 - 31
Youth: November 2-3
Veterans only: February 1-2

Ducks: Daily bag limit on ducks is 6 and may include no more
than 4 mallards (no more than 2 females), 3 wood ducks, 2 canvasbacks, 2 redheads, 1 black duck and 1 pintail. Only 1 scaup may be taken for the first 15 days of the season with 2 per day allowed for the remainder. No mottled ducks may be taken for the first 15 days of the season with 1 per day allowed for the remainder. Daily bag limits for scaup and mottled ducks during youth and veterans hunting days are 0 mottled ducks and 1
scaup if before the regular season, 1 mottled duck and 2 scaup if after the regular season.

Coots: 15

Mergansers: 5 (only 2 of which may be hooded)

Gonna have to join ya in the East zone Jan 6-17th. Give me early Jan, not late Jan

Would have thought the layout of Thanksgiving calendar this year would make for a great chance to open WZ Nov 16, EZ Nov 23, scrap the early December long break (keep it to 1 week), and of course, scrap that first week in Jan WZ break, close it third week of Jan.

Like you said, no one wants the last week of January......but the few in the right places apparently do.....and so we have late Jan.

Dates are confirmed. What was originally proposed for the EZ was a 23-day first split which makes zero sense for the larger portion of the EZ. No water and no ducks after the first few days just did not sit right with a more than a few concerned hunters so we lobbied and got the dates we finally ended up with which are a lot closer to traditional dates than first proposed.

I personally would open the EZ the Friday after Thanksgiving but for whatever reason no one seems to want to wait 6 days later than the traditional opening day which is the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

I don't know the little click pushing for these dates, but things need to change.

Oh really?

Rick, you know anything of this Arky outfitter? Looks like someone coming down to cash in on the Sept teal game.

Don't know any more than you, except that a fellow who guided with us for a while works for them, so he was the connection. Hope renting them the camp works out well for Mary. Should beat just renting a few rooms to individuals hunting in the area, like she did last year.

Hope indeed it works out for Ms. Mary; I also saw they're looking for a cook for teal season as well.

In other news, been eagerly awaiting this event ever since the initial one ended in Stuttgart last July, and it was then announced that July 2024 would bring the big event to Baton Rouge.

Anyone on here planning to make it? I'll likely go Saturday.

Picked Mallard Bay Co. this morning, and while the north ponds are as big, open and pretty as I've seen them, giant salvinia is claiming the south side water.

Only if you come pick me up and bring me home. There's no damn place to park around there.

To that point, thought about seeing if my wife would agree to shuttle us from our house. Really dont want to attempt parking over in that area unless we'd go at door-opening time in morning.

I'm tired of the struggle. I just want to watch the sunrise in the marsh a few more years and hope to see a duck. I don't know that I'll pay the price of admission much longer, though, if the trend continues.

That new pup should be plenty of motivation for more than just a few more. How is she doing?

I would like to know where all these broods are? I realize I represent a small sliver of the PPR but I am hearing the same thing from others. Staying very optimistic but in my area I believe the water came too late. Seeing lots of pairs. Guessing they gave up for this year. Did find a nest today with 9 eggs.

I came here to post just that. I have a few years to go just for her.

We're making headway. She's still pup minded and a ball of energy but she's learning. I'm taking it slow with short sessions every day, going back some weeks for a tune up. We have really good sessions, and some are cut short when she's not motivated. I wish I had more time to spend with her. I'd like to do two sessions a day, every day, early morning and late afternoon. It's really hot for this black dog right now.

Johnny and I did the Delta Expo with my son on Saturday, gooooooood night is that a spectacle. Don't know if any of the other Louisiana guys on here made it but it was something. Had some decent deals on gear here and there, J got a pair of waders for about $120 off.

Also met a male golden of the same dark coloring mine is that took a liking to my son and had phenomenal temperament. Had my wheels turning. Was from River Town Retrievers, a training outfit, in Natchez if anyone happens to know anything of that place. May need to inquire where the dog itself came from.

How was it? I’ve usually steer clear of those things because I feel like I get enough advertisements thrown at me as it is. Those events feel like one big infomercial to me but I’m sure it’d be fun to take the kids to if it was local. I don’t understand the folks who travel long distances to go to that and nwtf. Maybe I’m just a grumpy old soul.

I went Sunday with family, kids enjoyed seeing all the dogs.
Drake was selling everything 50% off ( less to load up and take back) I guess.
Was a cool event
All the dogs looked like they were ready to go home by Sunday.

My cousin just went and picked up a “high powered” bloodline golden from Natchez. I’ll have to ask if it was RTR.
Apparently this pups father/grandfather had multiple Grand passes

A dog's lineage as a champion in trials, etc. would largely be wasted on me, I suppose, given 1.) I'm hardly a trainer, and 2.) current dog had no such lineage and has proven more handy (and fulfilling) than I could have ever imagined, even being handled by someone who'd never even had a dog before, much less attempted instructing one.

Did do some corresponding with the fella at RTR's, made it seem like they dont do much breeding themselves, but rather help in locating and also training. Threw out a "3-5K" range for price tags......yowza. I think even Harry's breeder has doubled since we picked him out as a MAYBE 3 week old tiny thing, something like $900 I think at the time in late 2014 and brought home in Jan 2015, first hunt Sept 2015.

For the record, I'm also catching some heat already with the wife on the prospect of bringing home a "replacement" while Harry is still above ground, for fear of hurting his feelings. I've insisted it wouldn't be that way, but not a bridge I'm ready to cross too soon and excited for Harry's current relative fitness (for summer) and ongoing fire to retrieve, hopefully through this upcoming season and beyond.

3-5k?!? I hope that’s at least for a started dog and probably should be for a finished dog. Can’t fathom that for a puppy.

Hoping so myself but given I need a dog my kids connect fully with, only starting will likely need to be going on is in my backyard at very early age.
